Grace Cove
Novel in Progress
One windy day in May 2004, a woman is swept from the rocks into the cold waters off Grace Cove, Maine. Almost immediately, strange and sometimes otherworldly events begin to ripple through the small coastal town. No one can explain them, which does little to discourage anyone from trying.
Caught up in the events of that summer are three friends: May Lynn True, a lobsterman’s wife trying her best to keep ahead of the needs of five children; Nicki Sweetwater, recently widowed and taking tentative steps toward a new life; and Fiona Wilkes, a middle-school teacher who has shed much of her old life in a desperate act of reinvention.
Meanwhile, summer brings its usual influx of visitors—and some decidedly less familiar occurrences. As visions and other inexplicable events begin to unsettle the town, a cache of old letters reveals the story of Grace True, an Englishwoman who came to the Maine coast more than two centuries earlier—and whose presence in Grace Cove may not belong entirely to the past.
Grace Cove is a novel about love, loss and starting over, about women finding their way through lives that refuse to go according to plan, and about the powerful grip of the past on the present.
